Background

Dr. Petzel began his career in accounting in the Financial Services Office of Ernst & Young LLP and engaged in various corporate and partnership tax projects. Before pursuing a Ph.D., Dr. Petzel taught as a full time Visiting Lecturer at Wake Forest University teaching various tax and financial accounting courses.

Courses

Dr. Petzel’s teaching interests include tax, financial accounting, and managerial accounting.

Research

Dr. Petzel’s research interests include taxes on the financial statements, tax policy changes, and capital markets.  His dissertation focused on how the permanently reinvested earnings assertion influences perceptions of credit risk.

Additional Information

While teaching at Wake Forest University, Dr. Petzel was awarded the 2012-2013 MSA Teacher of the Year Award.
